Opening yet another restaurant: The hyped Japanese BBQ concept is coming to Aalborg

In April 2023, Aalborg gained an exciting new restaurant when AI Japan (AI means “love” in Japanese) opened at Brandstrupsgade 11, offering a delicious selection of Japanese specialties such as sushi, ramen, takoyaki, and yakiniku.
Now, the team behind AI Japan is ready with another exciting news for the people of Aalborg.
MigogAalborg can reveal that they are soon opening another Japanese restaurant in the city center.
At Boulevarden 8, owner Jan Shu and his team are currently transforming the old Carl’s Jr. location into a brand new restaurant named Sekiryu.
“I travel to Japan twice a year for inspiration, and I’ve fallen in love with the Japanese BBQ concept yakiniku, which I can’t wait to introduce to the people of Aalborg,” says Jan Shu.
The concept is popular in large cities like Copenhagen, and now, the time has finally come for Northern Europe’s Paris.
Grill your own food at the table
So, what is this yakiniku concept all about?
In short, it’s a BBQ concept where you grill meat, fish, and vegetables on a grill placed in the middle of the table.
“It’s a really cozy way to dine out, and it appeals to families with children, couples, and friends looking for a different gastronomic experience,” explains Jan.
There will also be the opportunity to order and grill the special Japanese wagyu beef.
In addition to the special BBQ concept, the restaurant will feature different monthly menus, all based on traditional Japanese cuisine.
“That way, our guests will always have new and exciting dining experiences when they visit us.”
The menu will also always include exquisite sushi, ramen, and other Japanese specialties, as you know them from AI Japan.

Eat until you burst
If there’s one thing we people from North Jutland understand, it’s all-you-can-eat. Therefore, many will be happy to know that you pay a fixed price – and then you can grill and eat to your heart’s content.
Jan explains that they aim to make guests feel like they’ve stepped directly into Japan when they visit the new restaurant.
“There will almost be no need to travel to Japan because we’ll bring Japanese culture directly to Aalborg. There will also be an opportunity to wear traditional Japanese kimonos and take a fun picture for your photo album,” says Jan.
Sekiryu is expected to open its doors at the end of April or the beginning of May.
