Perfect for lunch: New takeaway spot opens in Aalborg

A new delicious eatery has popped up on Østerbro under the name Madkassen. And the place delivers exactly what the name promises.

Here, you’ll find a wide selection of smørrebrød—the kind that would be perfect for a slightly more luxurious lunchbox.

Three concepts in one

Madkassen consists of three concepts in two spaces.

In one space, you’ll find a classic takeaway shop offering a selection of traditional smørrebrød, including potato, seasoned tartare, and chicken salad. Over time, Madkassen will rotate its smørrebrød selection based on the season.

Madkassen emphasizes that their concept is simple: delicious smørrebrød at affordable prices.

“We aim to make Aalborg’s most affordable high-quality smørrebrød. It should be delicious, but it shouldn’t cost a fortune—it’s still just open-faced sandwiches.”

The menu also includes sourdough-based sandwiches, stjerneskud, and a weekly hot dish.

If you have a sweet tooth, you can finish your meal with their brownie.

In the adjoining space, customers can enjoy their smørrebrød on-site, as the venue can be booked for private events with space for around 20 guests.

Madkassen also offers Private Dining, where they cater events by preparing food on location.

Madkassen is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
