Grief, loss and love: A photo exhibition that hits hard

If you pass through Torvet in Nørresundby these days, you will notice that the square has taken on a different look than usual.

The photo exhibition For me, you are right here has just opened here.

It is an exhibition that, through portraits and personal stories, focuses on parents who have lost a child – and on the grief and love that remain after such a loss.

The exhibition was created by the National Association Mistet Barn in collaboration with award-winning documentary photographers Andreas Haubjerg and Nanna Navntoft, and was produced in connection with the association’s 40th anniversary.

Portraits in everyday life

The exhibition consists of a series of large photographic portraits accompanied by short, personal accounts from parents who speak about life after losing a child.

The portraits are placed directly in the urban space and are therefore accessible to everyone – including those who do not deliberately seek out the exhibition.

The location on the town square is a very deliberate choice.

Here, the stories become part of everyday life and meet passers-by, shoppers, and those who are simply on their way elsewhere.

An exhibition on tour

For me, you are right here has been touring the country since August and has been shown in several Danish cities.

Now it has come to Nørresundby, where the exhibition can be experienced until the end of February.

The purpose of the exhibition is both to provide insight into the grief parents live with after the loss of a child and to open up conversations about grief – a subject that often carries great weight but rarely has space in the public realm and can be difficult to ask about.

An exhibition on tour

The exhibition has been made possible with support from a number of foundations, municipalities, and partners – including Solsidens Udviklings Alliance – as well as sponsorships from private companies.

The National Association Mistet Barn’s work on quality-assuring support services is carried out in collaboration with the National Grief Center and is supported by the A.P. Møller Foundation.
