Nordic Seaplanes expands: Aalborg–Læsø-Copenhagen route planned

A new and rather unusual summer route may soon be coming to Aalborg Airport.

Nordic Seaplanes is working on a route connecting Langelinie in Copenhagen with Byrum on the island of Læsø and onward to Aalborg Airport.

On Friday, the company will conduct a test flight for invited guests.

If all goes according to plan, the route could launch as early as 3 July.

Initially, flights are scheduled to operate twice a week throughout July—on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In August, the service would switch to Mondays and Fridays.

The information was shared by former TV 2 presenter Jes Dorph Petersen on Facebook, as he is representing Læsø in the testing of the proposed summer route.

The aircraft has room for 13 passengers and is a turboprop plane equipped with two engines and propellers.

Flights will operate at an altitude of between 500 and 1,000 metres, meaning passengers will be able to use their mobile phones throughout the journey.

Could run into August

The August schedule is dependent on the route proving successful and generating sufficient ticket sales in July, as well as advance bookings for August.

The service will be operated using an amphibious aircraft capable of taking off and landing on both water and conventional runways.

This allows the aircraft to depart directly from the water at Langelinie before landing on runways in Byrum and Aalborg.

“It is a route we are launching at short notice, so we need support from local residents and travellers who want to use it.

If we see genuine interest and receive positive feedback, we will move forward.

It should certainly be possible, but it also requires local backing,” Ole Christiansen, CEO of Nordic Seaplanes, told TV 2 Nord.

Already Flying Between Copenhagen and Aarhus

Copenhagen Air Taxi currently operates flights between Copenhagen and Læsø, but Ole Christiansen stresses that the new service is intended as a supplement rather than a competitor to the existing route.

Nordic Seaplanes already operates flights between Aarhus and Copenhagen, with a journey time of approximately 45 minutes.

The company highlights the convenience of flying directly from harbour to harbour, with check-in required only 20 minutes before departure.

The journey from Copenhagen to Læsø is expected to take around 55 minutes.

According to TV 2 Nord, one-way ticket prices are expected to range between DKK 1,000 and DKK 2,200.

As a result, the new service will not be cheaper than the existing travel options between Aalborg and Copenhagen.

However, it will offer a very different flying experience, along with the advantage of arriving much closer to central Copenhagen.
