In Aalborg: Popular restaurant expands with takeaway and more space

There is more BRIX on the way in the heart of Aalborg.

The popular restaurant at C.W. Obels Plads has taken over the premises right next door – and at the same time, the restaurant has gained even more space in the cosy courtyard known as “Brix Baggård”, which the restaurant is named after.

Over the past few weeks, the owners have been busy cleaning, rearranging and preparing the new premises, and on Friday, 2 October, they will finally open.

Louise, Ninna and Danny Friis, the owners of Restaurant BRIX, are looking forward to the expansion.

“We’re really looking forward to opening here. These are great premises, and even when the restaurant is fully booked, we still have enough capacity in the kitchen to serve more guests. So it will be wonderful to expand,” says Ninna Friis.

The premises next door were most recently home to a pizzeria for a short period, but they are actually already physically connected to Restaurant BRIX.

When La Locanda was located at the address, the two units were combined, meaning there is already direct access between them through a door.

Now they are being reunited – this time under the BRIX name.

More open-faced sandwiches and takeaway

The expansion will give BRIX the opportunity to increase a part of the business that guests have already been asking for: takeaway.

The additional premises also come with a kitchen, where the plan is to prepare made-to-order Danish open-faced sandwiches.

The menu will also include stjerneskud – the classic Danish fish dish – as well as filled rolls, smaller open-faced sandwiches, sandwich cakes, meatballs and potato salad.

A brand-new partnership will also bring meat, sausages and cold cuts from a very popular farm shop much closer to the people of Aalborg.

“We’ve entered into a partnership with Krastrupsøgaard Gårdbutik to sell their meat, sausages and cold cuts here,” says Danny Friis.

Krastrupsøgaard Gårdbutik is located at Aalborgvej 52 towards Hadsund, and until now, Aalborg residents have had to drive around half an hour to get their hands on the products.

But not anymore.

More space in the courtyard

BRIX is not only expanding indoors.

The restaurant is also getting more space in the beautiful historic courtyard, where there are already tables, chairs and parasols with patio heaters.

With the buildings providing natural shelter from the wind, the owners hope the courtyard will help extend the outdoor dining season.

Although the autumn weather is beginning to make itself felt out on C.W. Obels Plads, conditions are different inside the courtyard.

“It’s a little windier out on the square, but it’s still warm in here,” says Ninna.

The expansion comes at a time when BRIX continues to experience strong interest from guests.

“September is normally a quieter month. The summer holidays are over, and many people cut back a little on restaurant visits, but we’re still seeing plenty of guests both at weekends and on weekdays,” says Ninna Friis.

Most recently, the restaurant was fully booked for its “Sætter ild til Aalborg” event at the weekend.

The new premises will also provide more indoor space when autumn really sets in.

There will be room for 18–20 guests, as well as additional seating by the window. The space can also be used as a private function room, where even more guests can be accommodated.

From Friday, 2 October, you can pick up delicious takeaway from the premises behind the beautiful green door next to BRIX at Adelgade 4 in central Aalborg.
