Smørrebrød added to the menu: Popular takeaway in Aalborg expands

There is good news for all lovers of smørrebrød in Aalborg.
At MUMS, a classic Danish lunch favourite has been revived, with the launch of eight beautifully crafted pieces of smørrebrød.
As with everything else on the menu, each piece is carefully composed down to the smallest detail.
And it shows—in both appearance and taste.
The bread is freshly baked, the potatoes come from Vildmosen, the meat is sourced from local butchers, and all garnishes and dressings are, of course, homemade.
“Personally, I love smørrebrød—and at the same time, it’s practically a national dish. It’s one of the most Danish things we have,” says Allan Frost, owner of MUMS.
Guests can choose from eight classic favourites, all thoughtfully selected and crafted according to the restaurant’s high standards.

“We place great importance on our ingredients, which are all of high quality and sourced as locally as possible.
That applies to everything we do—and now also to our smørrebrød,” he explains.
Each bite balances soft and crispy textures, combining the familiar with the new.
At MUMS, the menu blends classic traditions with modern creativity, where every piece is made with care, craftsmanship, and local ingredients.
It’s not just the flavours and presentation that stand out—the names have also been given a creative twist.
Among them are “The Topped Hen,” “The Crispy Plaice,” “The Cimbrer Bull with Garnish,” and of course, “The Delicious Roast from Gug.”

A clear favourite emerges
The new menu launched in March, and a clear favourite has already emerged among guests.
The vegetarian option, “Tribute to Vildmosen,” featuring potatoes from the region, has proven especially popular.
“The potato dish is one of our bestsellers. It’s simple, but incredibly flavourful,” says Allan, whose personal favourite is “Gastro Veal.”
In general, the toppings are generous, tender, and rich in flavour, while the potatoes are cooked to perfection—neither overdone nor too firm.
The salads and dressings add an extra dimension, elevating each piece even further.
Every serving is carefully garnished—not just for presentation, but to enhance the overall taste experience.
More than just lunch
This is not the first time MUMS has featured smørrebrød on the menu. They actually tried it 10 years ago.
“At the time, it didn’t really take off in Aalborg, so we removed it again. But now the timing feels right, and we can tell that people in Aalborg are ready,” Allan says.
The ambition at MUMS is for smørrebrød to be versatile: a quick lunch, a takeaway option, or a cosy and informal dinner.

Most guests order two to three pieces per person—making for a satisfying taste of Danish food culture.
