Ran 1000 kilometers in 6 days: Stine Rex smashed wild world record

Stine Rex from Aalborg is the world’s toughest female ultrarunner.

Last night she quite simply made history when, at around 2 a.m., she crossed the finish line as the holder of a new wild world record.

She ran 1000 kilometers in 6 days, 13 hours, and 35 minutes.

That’s the equivalent of running from Aalborg to Frankfurt in six days!

Or nearly 3,000 laps around a football field.

With that, she beat the world record by a full day and three hours, which shows just how insane it is.

Many turned up last night

Several hundred people showed up in Aabybro on Sunday night, where the run has taken place over the past week at TV 2 Nord’s headquarters.

There they could celebrate the Iron Lady of North Jutland when she reached the 1000 kilometers. In addition, the entire week also broke a new fundraising record for Gestus Nord, which raised over 1.8 million DKK.

“I did it. I am incredibly proud, and above all so grateful for the support I have felt all the way through,” said Stine Rex on stage after the achievement.

During the last 20 kilometers, it was clear that Stine Rex’s body was completely spent, and she was more walking at a fast pace than running.

Her body was pushed to the absolute limit, but she still had the energy to smile every time someone applauded her.

World record intact

All week, the event has been a huge celebration in Aabybro, where both famous Danes, football and handball teams, as well as a number of other ultrarunners have participated.

Under the name North Jutland Makes a Difference, the week offered concerts, activities for children and adults, as well as food and drink stalls.

The purpose of the run was to raise money for Gestus Nord, which supports vulnerable children and young people in North Jutland – and of course to break a world record.

Stine Rex achieved both in full, and can now let her body rest with a world record on the shelf.
