Perfect for the fall: Where to find Aalborg’s best coffee spots

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

There is no way around it: Fall is fast approaching.

As the leaves start to turn yellow, the atmosphere is turned up a notch at the local coffee shops and inviting smells of freshly roasted beans spread in the streets.

Whether you seek to escape the growing cold or boost your energy level, you want the best of the best and luckily, Aalborg is on the beat when it comes to good, quality coffee.

In Aalborg as well as other big cities, coffee has become a science in its own, and you will often find menu cards that almost surpass novels.

We have created a list of what we think are the coziest coffee shops in Aalborg with the best coffee. Do you have your own favorite place that did not make the list then feel free to suggest who you think deserves the title as the best coffee spot in Aalborg.

And speaking of goodies and the best in the city – did you read our cake guide?

Kochs Kaffebar

It is no coincidence that Kochs Kaffebar put the word ‘kaffe’ (coffee) in their name; these guys know what they are doing, and you need to know about them.

The coffee shop occupies two floors and is placed right in the heart of Aalborg. The white beams, the hushed voices, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee provide for a very fulfilling experience.

If you seat yourself near the window on the second floor, you get a good view of the dynamic city life while sipping your steaming hot coffee.

Do you fancy a bit of a treat as well, you should try their Skildpadde Latte (a latte with a twist of Toms chocolate and caramel) or the Bounty Latte that tastes like coconut and chocolate.

Behag Din Smag

In the middle of Gabels Torv, you will find Behag Din Smag; a very popular coffee shop that is passionate about coffee-making and where nothing happens by chance.

Here coffee is a craft and suppliers are carefully chosen from some of the best coffee farms in the world.

Aside from the authentic coffee, the coffee shop also focuses on serving quality on the side. They offer a variety of organic baked goods from rye bread sandwiches to crisp croissants.

Another must-try for any coffee enthusiast in the city.

Good Life Society

Are you looking to experience a real British tea and coffee room (or at least the Danish version of it) then look no further than Good Life Society. The tea and coffee house lights up Nørregade and their confections can make anyone’s mouth water.

Their list of coffees is too extensive to write here but rest assured that you can find well-known classics as well as their own inventions on the menu card. Still, we want to highlight their delicious mochaccino, which features a downright sinful espresso with dark, Belgian chocolate, and steamed milk. Mmm!

Café Peace

During lunch and dinner time, you are guaranteed to find a long line of people hoping to get a table at Café Peace.

But once the clock strikes 15 and everyone’s full and happy, the atmosphere becomes more relaxed, and the smell of food is replaced by Frellsens coffee beans.

It is the perfect spot if you are looking to gossip with your friends after work or just need a place to collect your thoughts.

Penny Lane

Stepping into Penny Lane is almost like stepping into Wonderland.

And it is not just the decor and the atmosphere that is fairytale-like.

The combination of the beautiful porcelain, the irresistible cakes, the inviting baked goods, and plentiful coffee makes the café the perfect place to satiate your thirst and cravings.

Pssst – Penny Lane has a little sister in Aalborg called Abbey Road Café. The café is located close to Nordkraft and Musikkens Hus and here you will find the same cozy and homey ambiance that Penny Lane is known for.

Café Salt

Are you looking to enjoy your coffee in surroundings even prettier than the ones in the center of Aalborg then head on over to Café Salt in Vestre Fjordpark.

While your enjoying the fresh air in your lungs and feasting your eyes on the Limfjord, you can sip on a cup of fresh, organic quality coffee (which is served in a biodegradable cup).

It is an experience unlike anywhere else in the city.

Starbucks

We are fully aware that Starbucks is not a local coffee shop but seeing as they make great coffee and is a popular spot in Aalborg, we want to include them on the list.

Also, once fall comes knocking, Starbucks whip out their legendary Pumpkin Spice Latte and that is worth celebrating.

Its flavor and smell is the very definition of fall and so, during this change of seasons, the Pumpkin Spice Latte goes straight to our hearts.

BACO

Since opening in 2018, BACO Bagels & Coffee has been a huge hit in Aalborg – not least because of its price range.

Everything in the café costs only 25 kr. Yes, you read correctly, everything costs 25 kr. Whether it is coffee, ice coffee, lemonade, bagels, or cookies, you do not have to pay more than 25 kr per item.

You might be inclined to think that low prices mean low quality but at BACO they pride themselves on making quality coffee that everyone can afford.
