Something for all ages: Here are Aalborg’s best playgrounds

Even though there’s still a bit of a chill in the air, the calendar says “spring”.

That means it’s finally time to send the kids back outside—out to the city’s playgrounds.

Maybe you’re getting a bit tired of the same old spots, so we’re here to help with this guide to the city’s best playgrounds that are worth the trip.

All the playgrounds have been carefully selected (and tested…) by us, though there may still be some we haven’t discovered yet.

Mølleparken by Noah’s Ark

In Mølleparken, you’ll find what is probably one of the coziest playgrounds in the city—right next to Aalborg Zoo.

Everything is built from recycled and natural materials, and it is a relatively new addition to the city.

The playground is likely inspired by both Aalborg Zoo and the nearby sculpture “Noah’s Ark”.

Here, a wide range of exotic (wooden) animals await: zebras, lions, and crocodiles.

There are swings in various sizes, balance beams, a play tower, and small tables where you can enjoy your lunch.

A truly nice and inviting place that caters to children of most ages.

Grønnegården in Skalborg

If you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous than recycled wood and a zebra, you can head to Skalborg, which is home to a fairly wild and relatively new playground.

The playground features, among other things, a rather tall slide that—for parents—requires a bit of creativity to climb up unnoticed.

There is also a large play tower with varying levels of difficulty, as well as balance courses that demand full concentration.

The playground also includes a couple of small trampolines, which is not something we often see at the playgrounds we’ve visited.

We recommend this one for slightly older children who can move around on their own.

The Tarzan Playground at Sohngårdsholm Park

We move to the other side of the city—more specifically to Sohngårdsholm Park, where a special playground opened in 2021.

This playground is undoubtedly one of our personal favourites—especially in the summer, when everything is in full bloom.

It features a Tarzan course, learning boards, a large climbing structure, a carousel, swings, and many more elements that children will love.

With the many trees in the area—and the lush green surroundings—you could easily imagine yourself in a Tarzan film. All that’s missing are a few vines (and maybe some gorillas).

The playground in Sohngårdsholm Park is located in the northern part, near Humlebakken.

Jyttevej in Vejgaard

We continue through the city and arrive at what is probably the largest playground in this guide.

The playground belongs to Vivabolig in Vejgaard, more specifically at Heimdalsgade 47, and includes just about everything a child could wish for.

It consists of what is essentially one large climbing structure, connected by walkways, ropes, and a wide variety of slides.

This is truly a hidden gem, where we expect both younger and older children could easily spend hours.

The playground also includes a large grassy area where you can play ball—or relax in the sun while the kids explore.

Vestre Fjordpark in Vestbyen

Next, we head to another favourite playground that also covers a large area.

At Vestre Fjordpark, you’ll find a sea (…or fjord?) of activities, no matter the age of your children—or yourself.

Even when the sun isn’t shining and the park is packed with people, families can still get a lot out of a visit here.

At one end of the park, there’s a long zip line and an obstacle course through the woods, while down by the water there are climbing structures both in the water and on land.

On the roof of the activity centre, you’ll find several trampolines, a long slide, and a fantastic view.
