Spilforsyningen expands: New store follows successful pop-up

It was originally something of a trial run when Spilforsyningen opened a pop-up store in Aalborg Storcenter on 14 August.

But the experiment has gone so well that the people behind it are now ready to take the next step and make their presence in the shopping centre permanent.

They are therefore busy setting up another Spilforsyningen store – this time with a slightly different concept from what customers know from the existing store.

“The pop-up has gone really well, so we’re looking forward to moving in permanently out there,” says Pernille Werner Jensen, manager of the store in central Aalborg, who will also manage the new store.

Focus on cards and fantasy universes

The new store will not be a classic Spilforsyningen with shelves full of board games.

Instead, there will be a much greater focus on trading cards, miniature games and major fantasy universes.

“It will be a mix between Spilforsyningen and our sister store, Card Collective, in Copenhagen. It will be a dedicated card store featuring things such as sports cards, Pokémon, Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons,” says Pernille Werner Jensen.

The idea is to create a store that offers something different from the existing game stores in the shopping centre.

“There are already others selling board games, so we want to offer something that isn’t already available there,” she says.

At the same time, the people behind Spilforsyningen are considering using the new store for various events and activities.

Familiar faces are coming along

Although the store is new, several of the faces will be familiar.

All employees from the pop-up store will continue at the new location and have spent the past month getting to know the products and different gaming universes.

Co-owner Kaspar, whom customers may already recognise from Spilforsyningen’s advertisements and the existing store, will also be there from time to time.

Pernille Werner Jensen will likewise divide her time between the stores, although she will primarily be based at the city-centre location.

And when the doors open, there will most likely be a little something extra for the first customers.

Spilforsyningen is currently working on various opening offers, although the exact plans for opening day have not yet been finalised.

The pop-up store will close on Sunday afternoon, 27 September. The new permanent store will then open on 1 October in Aalborg Storcenter.
