It’s time for an updated guide to the best ice cream in the city center:

Guf og Kugler – Bispensgade 27

First on the list is Guf & Kugler, which has several times been crowned Denmark’s Best Ice Cream Shop.

That’s hardly surprising, as this quirky ice cream shop has won the hearts of many North Danes with their delicious, handcrafted treats.

At Guf & Kugler, cheeky names are part of the fun, with good old-fashioned cones filled to the brim with big, sweet scoops in every color of the rainbow—not to mention their friendly service, where you’re always welcome to taste before choosing.

Paradis – Algade & Reberbansgade

No list without Paradis, which delights thousands of locals every year when their four shops reopen for the season.

This year, their ice cream counter is once again filled with Paradis’ own homemade ice cream, focused on top quality and fresh, natural ingredients—and you can both see and taste the difference.

In addition to a lavish variety of flavors, Paradis also serves iced coffee, frappés, and various ice cream desserts.

IsVærftet – Stjernepladsen 43

Next, we head slightly out of the center to the beautiful new Stjernepladsen, where a new ice cream shop has made itself at home.

We’re talking about IsVærftet, which opened in July 2021 and features ice cream from Ryå.

Their koldskål (buttermilk dessert) ice cream is a huge local favorite—and once you try it, you’ll understand why.

It’s made with buttermilk, a touch of cream, a little sugar, and fine Bourbon vanilla. On top, it’s sprinkled with sweet, crunchy kammerjunkere (a classic Danish biscuit).

Voila! The perfect combination of two summer favorites.

Isboden by Salling

The pink ice cream stand in front of Salling on Algade pops up every summer, and here you’ll find Kastberg ice cream in full swing.

Kastberg is known for its gourmet ice cream—and they make a pretty irresistible soft serve too, speckled with so many real vanilla seeds it could be mistaken for a Dalmatian.

We recommend their Banana Split, which tastes just like… well, a banana split.

Frellsen – Algade

Back in January, Frellsen returned “home” to its old location on Algade.

This shop is hard to walk past—it’s always bursting with tempting treats.

And that includes summer, when the shop serves up freshly made soft serve and tasty waffle cones with exactly the scoops you’re dreaming of.

Our prediction for this summer’s hit? Their genius Softice Drøm (Soft Serve Dream) at 45 DKK.

It includes soft serve, sprinkles, topping, whipped cream or marshmallow fluff, and a choice of flavors like caramel, chocolate, apple, Oreo, or strawberry.

Restaurant Vestre Baadelaug

Gourmet ice cream from Kastberg and Italian soft serve from Il Primo… right by the water.

Sounds like a dream for ice cream lovers—and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Restaurant Vestre Baadelaug, a place already nationally known for its legendary burger sandwich.

But this summer, they’ve stepped it up with a full-on ice cream bar.

The selection rotates regularly, but there are always five soft serve flavors available—typically vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, a kid-friendly choice, and a “flavor of the week.”

Served in a cone or a cup, with optional toppings if you’re in the mood to really treat yourself.

Aalborg Chokoladen – John F. Kennedy Plads 3a

If you haven’t yet visited Aalborg Chokoladen right by the train station, it’s time to go!

In addition to their delicious chocolate-coated marshmallows, exquisite handmade chocolates, and other tempting treats, they also serve homemade ice cream!

You can buy it by the scoop in a cone or cup—or take a box home with you.
