The wait is over: Here are the most popular programs at Aalborg University
During the night to Friday, 3,733 applicants have been offered a study place at Aalborg University (AAU), while 2,415 applicants have secured a spot at UCN.
This year, AAU is offering more places in critical IT and AI programs aimed at strengthening business and Denmark’s infrastructure.
Aalborg University (AAU) is poised to produce even more graduates with in-demand IT skills, with increased student intake in programs such as Cyber and Computer Technology, Software, and Data Science & Machine Learning.
Specifically, Cyber and Computer Technology in Copenhagen and Computer Technology in Aalborg are seeing significant increases in student numbers, with rises of 38.1 percent and 52.9 percent respectively. This is excellent news for the business sector and Danish infrastructure.
“Recent incidents have shown the massive societal impacts of IT system failures, such as the complete halt of air traffic,” Anne Marie Kanstrup, pro-rector of Aalborg University, says in a press release.
“We are extremely pleased to educate more ambitious individuals for critical positions that Danish and international companies are eager to fill. An AAU education prepares them well for further specialization in fields like Cybersecurity.”
Business sector demands IT-competent graduates
Denmark’s digital landscape requires a wide array of IT engineers, making it positive that AAU can offer more engineering study places to women this year. Programs like Software in Copenhagen and the Bachelor of Engineering in Design and Application of Artificial Intelligence are among the top performers, with increases in female enrollment by 14.5 percent and 11.5 percent respectively compared to last year.
“It is truly positive that we have succeeded in attracting more women to programs focused on artificial intelligence, security, and IT in general. We have worked on this for many years, and we will continue these efforts,” Anne Marie Kanstrup says.
Across all engineering programs, there is an 8 percent increase in the number of places offered to women.
Top programs this year
The most popular programs this year are the well-known fields of Medicine, Psychology, and Law, with 1,982, 1,596, and 1,025 applications respectively.
Top 3 most sought-after programs:
- Medicine: 1,982 applications (195 offers)
- Psychology: 1,596 applications (216 offers)
- Law: 1,025 applications (161 offers)
To be admitted to Medicine via quota 1 requires a GPA of 9.9, Psychology also requires a GPA of 9.9, while Law requires a GPA of 8.5.
Nationwide, 85,152 people have applied for higher education – a 1.3% increase compared to last year. This year, 61,351 have been offered a study place as of July 26. In 2023, 61,382 were offered a study place, which means that 31 fewer have been offered a place in 2024 (0.05%). Of the 61,351, 30,569 have been offered admission to one of the country’s eight universities.
