Travel back in time: Ride on a vintage trains during the autumn break

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

The autumn break is approaching, and there’s plenty to do in Aalborg.

For example, you can take a trip on Limfjordsbanen’s old locomotive and carriages.

On Sunday, October 15th, there are two trips to Aalborg Airport. On Wednesday, October 18th, it goes to Østhavnen, and on Sunday, October 22th, the destination is Skørping.

All trips depart from Aalborg Station.

Fun excursion

The train staff are dressed in railway uniforms that suit the vintage train.

The train journey begins with the conductor sounding the departure whistle, and everyone boards. Slowly, the carriages start to rumble, most noticeably on the wooden benches of the third class, and more softly in the padded seats.

During the trip, you can enjoy the old teakwood carriages built for Danish private railways between 1901 and 1933 from the end platforms.

The trip to Østhavnen goes south of Aalborg through Østeraadalen, passing by Gug and Gistrup, after which it turns north and follows the new hospital.

In Østhavnen, the train makes a stop, and it’s time to stretch your legs and have a cup of coffee, as is customary on a proper outing.

Two hours later, the train is back at Aalborg Station.

On Sunday, there’s a chance to reach the airport by vintage train and cross the Railway Bridge to Nørresundby, a shorter one-hour trip.

On Sunday, October 22, the journey goes south towards Skørping. The trip takes approximately two hours.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or on board the train before departure. The timetable and prices are available on the railway’s website.
