Food, music and market: Charity event in Aalborg collects donations for Ukraine
We’re two months into the Russian invasion of Ukraine and unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon.
This means that the Ukrainian people still are in need of humanitarian efforts, and that is why Ukrainian residents and refugees have organized a big charity day.
Stand with Ukraine – Aalborg, as the event is named, is held on Saturday, May 21, from 11:30 til 20:00 on Gammeltorv, and it’s a unique opportunity to support a good cause while simultaneously experiencing the Ukrainian culture up close.
MyAalborg spoke to one of the organizers, Victoria Donets, about the thoughts behind the event.
“Our purpose is to gather donations so we can buy an ambulance with medical grade equipment. We’ll send it to those regions in Ukraine that are affected the most. There are so many people that are affected by this war every hour, and they especially need medical help,” she explains.
Many activities during the day
The charity event starts at 11:30 with a big market where they offer everything from Ukrainian food and cakes to paintings and souvenirs. Everything is produced by some of the many Ukrainian refugees who have come to Denmark during the past months.
From 11:30 to 14:00 you can try Ukrainian lunch and from 14:00 to 17:00 there’ll be a barbeque where you can also buy food.
There’ll also be music from Danish, Ukranian and international artists from 13:00 to 19:00.
The children are also accommodated. Throughout the day, there’ll be plenty of activities; for instance face painting, painting of cars and other fun games. This will be led by volunteering Ukrainians.
On top of all this, you’re able to buy a photo session with a professional photographer where you can take a photo with a Danish and Ukrainian flag.
All of this happens at Gammeltorv and is supported by Studenterhuset and Aalborg Municipality.
