Unique tower opens near Aalborg: Now open to the public
Yesterday, Friday, a new tourist attraction—or landmark, if you will—was inaugurated.
Following an extensive transformation, the old water tower in Hammer Bakker has been turned into a new observation tower, where visitors can now enjoy views of forests, hills, valleys, and the Limfjord.
The tower was inaugurated with speeches, music by Vodskov School Choir and Anne Marie Hassing—and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen.
All interested citizens were invited to attend the opening, and there was even an opportunity to rappel down the outside of the tower.
“The water tower on Pitsvej in Vodskov has been inaugurated, and it’s not just a tower. It’s a symbol of what can be achieved when a community comes together and works as one,” Lasse Frimand Jensen wrote in a Facebook post afterward.
The new observation tower is 24 metres tall and features an internal staircase, allowing visitors to reach the new viewing platform.
From here, you can enjoy a unique view over both the Limfjord and the scenic area of Hammer Bakker—at a total height of around 70 metres above sea level.
Driven by volunteers
The project is led by the volunteer association “Tårnet i Hammer Bakker”, which has worked to transform the former water tower into a new attraction for both locals and visitors.

Lasse Frimand Jensen himself visited the water tower back in 2020 together with Erling Larsen, one of the key figures behind the project.
“Even back then, the vision was clear. Today, we are standing here with the result.
This project is driven by determination, persistence, and community spirit. A huge thank you to the volunteer association Tårnet i Hammer Bakker and everyone who has contributed time, effort, and support.
And a very special thanks to Erling Larsen. Your effort and dedication have been crucial.
You are the very definition of a passionate individual who makes a difference,” the mayor writes.
The tower is now open to the public, and the mayor encourages everyone to stop by and experience the new landmark in the area.
The address of the tower is Pitsvej 6.
