“Watch out”: Giant ants invade the city center

If you thought the worst thing you could find in the kitchen or on the terrace right now was a bunch of hungry – and annoying – ants, think again.
In the streets of Aalborg, the ants have grown to human size – and they’re on the loose.
The explanation is, however, a little less frightening than it might sound at first.
It’s actually the local carnival group Virak, who have dressed up in giant ant costumes and are ready to spread smiles, music, and ant-like industrious energy in the pedestrian streets.
The group has for many years been part of the international parade at Aalborg Carnival, and now they’re bringing the festive atmosphere directly to the city’s shoppers and visitors.
The enormous ants will wander through the city center at these times:
- Thursday, August 14, 3–5 PM
- Friday, August 15, 3–5 PM
- Saturday, August 16, 11 AM–1 PM
- Saturday, August 23, 11 AM–1 PM
So if you suddenly hear marching feet and see a giant ant approaching, don’t worry – it will most likely just be there to say hello.
