What’s going on?: This is why there’s a huge sandbox in the city center

Today, a massive excavator has moved into C.W. Obels Plads.

It is busy shoveling sand into a sandbox that takes up half of the square.

In the summer of 2023, the sandbox was transformed into a true summer paradise with colorful deck chairs, where people could snack on popcorn and enjoy outdoor summer cinema under the open sky.

Since the UEFA European Championship will be shown on a big screen at Gammeltorv this year, Aalborg City has decided to use the sandbox at C.W. Obels Plads for something else.

But what will the sandbox be used for then?

Accessible all summer

Last year, Aalborg City emptied the entire Fætter BR toy store and poured the toys into the sandbox for free use.

And exactly that will happen again this year.

All summer, the sandbox is available as an extra offering for all the children brought into the city by their parents.

The sandbox is planned to remain in the square until the end of August.

Last year’s summer cinema at C.W. Obels Plads was a huge success.

Fortunately, the success will be repeated this year, and once again it is completely free.

However, this year it will move to Gammeltorv together with the European Championship matches.
