Wild project: One of the city’s best chefs takes over a dining spot with its own island
Michael ‘Miv’ Pedersen is recognized as one of North Jutland’s absolute best restaurateurs.
He runs the gourmet Restaurant Tabu in Aalborg and Restaurant Glashuset in Lønstrup.
Recently, he has also become part of the exciting culinary projects at Kallehavegaard Badehotel and Hotel Strandlyst.
Now, he is embarking on a brand-new project in Aalborg.
MyAalborg can exclusively reveal that Michael ‘Miv’ Pedersen is opening something truly special at Skydebanevej 50, right next to DanHostel and Aalborg Camping.
Welcome to: Tabu Catering.
What we can look forward to
Skydebanevej 50 might not ring a bell for most people, but Miv has fallen in love with the area—and he is confident that many people in North Jutland will too.
Tabu Catering will stand on several pillars—all focused on providing exceptional culinary experiences, where every detail is meticulously planned.
“We have up to 9 hectares of land to play on, and it is unique to find such beautiful nature so close to the city center,” Miv says.
More about the beautiful nature later.
Miv has rented the physical premises at Skydebanevej 50, where there is space for gatherings, events, anniversaries, confirmations, weddings, etc.
The place will be known as Skydebanen.
“The facade will be painted Swedish red, and the interior will also get a proper overhaul, but the three event rooms offer fantastic opportunities—and an absolutely stunning view.
In addition, there are two large terraces that can open up many fun activities, such as weddings, Christmas parties, or summer parties,” Miv explains.
But that’s not all.
The island will be something completely unique in Aalborg
In addition to the beautiful event rooms at Skydebanen, Miv has also rented something else truly special in this somewhat hidden area.
Just a few steps from Skydebanen, you’ll find a small “island” with 30 small cabins, each accommodating 2-6 overnight guests.
These cabins have until now been part of Aalborg Camping, but now they will be restored to perfection—and there will soon be 30 cozy, red-painted cabins available for overnight stays.
“Imagine hosting a wedding party in our large tipi tent on the island with a view of the fjord, and then the guests can simply crash in the cabins when they can’t party anymore. It doesn’t get any better than that,” Miv promises.
The island is adjacent to green areas, the fjord, and a marina, and it’s almost hard to stop Miv once he starts talking about the possibilities for the many events that can be held in the area.
“It shouldn’t just be a location; it should be an experience. It can be anything from private dining to school camps, winter swimming events, corporate parties, Christmas markets in the cabins, fishing trips, cooking classes, cooking over an open fire—yeah, I could go on,” an obviously excited Miv states as he shows us around the fantastic surroundings.
Dreaming of concerts and events
Miv has fallen head over heels for the area for one reason: opportunities.
And the opportunities don’t stop at Skydebanen and the island.
The area actually holds even more potential just waiting to be tapped.
Next door to Tabu Catering is Aalborg Camping, which actually has a large event space.
“We have the possibility of borrowing the large lawn if we need even more space. We might create a street food festival, a Christmas market—or maybe hold Aalborg’s biggest picnic?
Our plan is also to organize some cool concerts and maybe even hold festivals out here,” he concludes.
The next few months will be spent transforming the premises, cabins, and area into an exclusive and cozy event space.
