Winner of Denmark’s best hotdog: Now you can try it in Aalborg
It is a pretty good time to be Nicklas Thellufsen.
The head chef at Restaurant Fauna in Musikkens Hus is having quite a September.
First, he created the Sandwich of the Month at FrAADeren, which quickly became a hit in Aalborg – and which we at MigogAalborg even went as far as calling the best sandwich we have ever tasted in the city.
Then came another culinary triumph.
At Denmark’s largest food festival, Food Festival, Nicklas Thellufsen and the rest of Team Fauna won the Danish Hotdog Championship for the third time.
Their fire-grilled Grisepjok impressed the judges and secured Fauna the title of Denmark’s Best Hotdog 2026.
Now people in Aalborg will get the chance to taste the winner for themselves.
Fire up the grill
On Friday, September 18, from 4pm to 6pm, Fauna will fire up the OFYR grill outside the restaurant at Musikkens Hus.
The award-winning hotdog will be served for DKK 75, and the price also includes a cold Alive Organic IPA from Thisted Bryghus.
This is far from a traditional Danish hotdog.
The winning creation features a specially developed sausage from Rævhede Charcuteri, made with dry-aged welfare pork and fallow deer, along with crispy guanciale, piment d’Espelette and garlic.
It is served in a brioche bun brushed with melted guanciale, roasted sage and garlic, before being topped with spiced North Jutland flower honey and a potato and garlic cream.
A number of crisp, tangy and sharp elements complete the hotdog and helped take Fauna all the way to the top of the competition.
There is no need to book in advance, but Fauna does have one warning:
Once they are gone, they are gone.
The hotdogs will only be served until the last one has been sold.
Also available later
If you cannot make it on September 18, there is still another chance.
Throughout September and October, the award-winning hotdog can also be added to the menu at Fauna Dining.
The price will again be DKK 75.
Third national title
This is the third time Team Fauna has been crowned Danish hotdog champions.
Each year, the Danish Hotdog Championship brings together some of the country’s leading restaurants and chefs, all tasked with giving the classic hotdog a gastronomic twist.
This year, Fauna competed against restaurants including Restaurant Ôke, Restaurant Kongemosen, Restaurant Alimentum, Quarter Past Noon by &tradition, Restaurant Rebelsk, Restaurant Brix, Magnolia, Urban Food Studio and Restaurant Fjord X Kalu.
The winner was selected by a judging panel that included Bocuse d’Or winner Kenneth Toft-Hansen, Michelin chef René Mammen, Dak Wichangoen, Ole Troelsø and Mette Brink Søberg from Noma’s test kitchen.
The Danish Hotdog Championship is not only about finding the country’s best hotdog.
All proceeds from the event are donated to charity.
This year, the money goes to the organisation 5 Skoler, which runs 16 schools near the Syrian border, providing children with education, a safe environment and a daily meal.
