You have to try this: New ramen restaurant in Aalborg

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

Vesterbro 74 has a history with Asian restaurants.

Some years ago, Nam Noodles rented the space, later it was home to the sushi restaurant DaAn, and now the new owner is Sanwe Ramen.

Just like the name says, ramen is the star of the restaurant, and we of course visited to hear more about their concept.

The owners of Sanwe is the married couple Haying Yang and Weihe who both have many years of experience as chefs in China and Denmark. Haying Yang is even trained as a ramen chef.

“She loves noodles,” Weihe Yang says about his wife and smiles.

“She is from the northern part of China and has been making homemade noodles since she was just six years old.”

That’s why Sanwe takes pride in making everything from noodles to soup from scratch and only use fresh ingredients of high quality.

Aalborg needed a ramen restaurant

Asked why they’ve chosen to open their own restaurant in Aalborg, the owners explain that Aalborg has been lacking a dedicated ramen restaurant.

“Ramen is very popular in Copenhagen, but Aalborg has been without a ramen restaurant.

We are sure that many locals like ramen but the closest restaurants are in Aarhus or Silkeborg,” Weihe explains.

Are you one of those people who’s a huge ramen fan, you’ll be happy to hear that Tonkotsu is on the menu. The dish is extremely popular in all of the world and especially in Japan.

Aside from Tonkotsu, which consists of pork bone soup, cha-shu, mushrooms, and eggs, you’ll also be able to order seven additional types of ramen. And there’s bound to be something that you’ll like,

There’s both spicy ramen, vegan ramen, and if you’re not fond of the thicker soup that characterizes the dish, then you can order a Shoyu version with clearer soup.

Price-wise the eight ramen dishes vary from 105 kroner to 120 kroner. There’s also various appetizers like Wakame Salad, Kimchi, Dumplings, and fried Gyoza.

Eat it fresh out of the kitchen

Although you can pick up your food from the restaurant (by calling 98 12 10 18 and ordering takeaway), the owners recommend that you eat your food in the restaurant.

“Ramen tastes best when it’s freshly made so we definitely recommend that you come down here and eat it,” Haiying says.

With opening hours from 12:00 to 21:00 every day of the week, it’s definitely easy to fit a visit into your calendar.
