Buzzing with life: Aalborg is host to a lot of great activities the coming weeks

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

Once, it was quite normal.

Weekends and weekdays filled with big and small events in Aalborg were absolutely not a rare occurrence.

But after Covid-19 hit it’s been rare to see any events at all.

That’s why it’s amazing that we’re now approaching a period filled with larger events, which is going to gather a lot of locals and people from the region.

We’ve looked ahead and gathered a list of events that are going to take place in our city in the end of August.

IDRÆTSMØDET / sports meet

August 27-29

Idrætsmødet is one of Denmark’s largest sports meets where organizers from a wide array of sports gather to share knowledge and experience as well as inspire people to exercise more.

The event was originally planned for June but due to Covid it was pushed to the end of August.

There’s lots to be excited about, and Aalborg is going to be buzzing with life. There’ll be loads of activities along the harbor, which are going to be very audience-friendly. On top of this, there’ll be activities in Vestre Fjordpark too that are open for participation.

You’ll also get the opportunity to watch some brave souls jump from the Limfjord bridge.

Nordjysk Madfestival / North Jutland’s Food Festival

August 26 – September 5

With more than 70 events planned in Aalborg and the North Jutland region, the Food Festival is tempting with a string of extraordinary food experiences.

It’s everything from gourmet dinners to dinner in the dark and all-you-can-eat moules frites. There’ll also be exciting talks and gin- and whiskey-tastings.

How about a great “Friday bar” event at Ulla T with cocktails and hotdogs?

There truly is something for every taste, and of course, also things to do for children.

Aairport Festival

August 27-28

If you have just the smallest fancy for EDM music then you have to read on.

Aairport Outdoor is hosting a huge electronic music festival on August 27 and 28 where they’ll be transforming Kildeparken into an EDM-paradise. It’ll be just one of a few festivals held in Europe after a string of cancellations following Covid restrictions.

Aairport Festival had a strong start back in January 2020 when they launched themselves as Scandinavia’s new EDM-festival, and reviewers, as well as the audience, were excited after two days of intense partying in Gigantium.

Now, the team behind the festival is ready with even more exciting activities.

Waater

August 28-29

The Waater festival first took place in 2018 and was repeated in 2019 with great success. Unfortunately, the organizers had to cancel in 2020.

This year, thankfully, they’re ready again and hosting the fun water-themed festival at Kabelparken.

It’s free to participate thanks to Waater’s many sponsors.

The activities will include everything from Waater Blob, Air Track, Waater Slide, Waater trampoline, diving tanks, SUP board, mega SUP boards, Sit on top kayaks, GoBoat, RIB boats, Aalborg Cable Park, and the FunCenter’s kayak polo lane.
