Out with fast fashion!: Attend a fashion show with cocktails and recycled clothes

Copenhagen has its own fashion week, where hundreds of journalists, designers, and influencers flock to the beautiful catwalks.

Amidst all the splendor and glamour, critical voices highlight how polluting the fashion industry is both nationally and internationally.

In fact, the The Nordic Ecolabel “Svanemærket” states that the fashion industry accounts for the second-largest consumption of water in the world and is responsible for 8-10% of global CO2 emissions.

This has made an impression on Karen Marie Peilicke, a medical student at Aalborg University, who has organized her own sustainable fashion show in response to fast fashion.

The fashion show will take place on Friday, March 22nd, at 19:30 in Sankt Markus Church, and the fact that it is a church that frames the event is not accidental.

Karen Marie wishes to “create a sustainable fashion show targeted at young people with a focus on upcycling and at the same time show that the church can be an open space and a social spot for young people regardless of faith,” as the organizer writes on Facebook.

Shop selected clothes and taste cocktails

The fashion show is a collaboration between Karen Marie, Sankt Markus Church, the Student Chaplains Aalborg, Blå Kors Thrift Store, Vinshoppen Vejgaard, and TechCollege Aalborg.

Designer Anne Sofie Shields has been responsible for upcycling thrift store finds donated by Blå Kors, and those creations will be showcased on the catwalk.

Cocktails are also part of fashion shows, and here Vinshoppen in Vejgaard offers four different kinds that you can buy before the show starts: Mead Spritz, Vejgaard Sunrise, Port Tonic, and Val de France Bubbles.
