From the 4th to the 6th of September, we’re painting the town red here in Aalborg.

And we’re neither referring to an early social democrat election campaign nor a large-scale Birthe Kjær concert.

Of course, it’s Aalborg in Red (Aalborg i Rødt), which is all set to fill the city with festivities, color, and great deals for the 14th year in a row!

All restrictions in relation to the corona-situation will be taken into account and hence there won’t be the traditional concert on Gammeltorv this year.

“This year, we’re expanding the festivities to even more parts of town and there will be a heap of carefully considered fun and festive events all around the city center”, Flemming Thingbak from Aalborg City explains from.

Crazy deals and fun events

Almost 100 shops are ready with the characteristic red stripes on the windowfronts, giant red balloons, and of course sharp deals and fun events.

“I am almost blown over by the energy and engagement that the shops are showing this year. Everyone is really keen to create the greatest weekend for all of the guests”, Flemming says.

Aalborg City already felt this enthusiasm last week during their Aalborg in Red meeting where they gathered a record number of shopkeepers that were more than ready to create a festive weekend.

In and around the shops, you can sink your teeth into everything from free hotdogs with red sausages to flødeboller (chocolate covered marshmallows) from Aalborg Chokoladen made especially for Aalborg in Red.

Things we can look forward to

Aalborg City is still fine-tuning the final program details but Flemming hinted at what’s on offer for the three-day festival.

Friday will literally start with a huge bang – or actually 12 of them.

“The shops will open for 12 hours on Friday, from 10-22, so Aalborg Kanonlaug will of course fire 12 shots from their cannons”, Flemming says with a smile.

It’s at Toldbod Plads and everyone’s welcome to stop by and view the fine uniforms and listen to the booming canons.

Event zones with plenty of entertainment

In addition to plenty of great deals, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will also feature musical and humorous features in the red zones around the city center.

Event zones will be set up in Gravensgade, Slotsgade, Bredegade, and in Nørregade Torv – all three days.

“The first hour you might be listening to a talented comedian, the next hour a DJ might come and play a little, then later in the day you can hear an up-and-coming musician,” Flemming states.

Aalborg is developing a strong jazz scene and on Sunday the streets will be filled with smooth tunes from talented jazz musicians.

This year, you’ll also get the opportunity to meet the shops themselves in the red event zones but Flemming isn’t revealing the precise details yet.

“The shops have really been innovative and creative, and you’ll experience everything from small fashion shows to competitions and the distribution of vouchers with extra special deals.”

Aalborg City will also be giving out slush ice and red (!) popcorn in the zones.

Sunday Brunch at a great price

Aalborg City is also putting the finishing touch on a real piece of Aalborg in Red news.

On Sunday, September 6th, you can enjoy a very special Sunday brunch from 09.00 – 11.00 at a selection of the city’s best cafés.

“We have so much to offer in the city center, and we hope that many will start the day with a delicious brunch before they go out and take in the new fall products in the shops”, Flemming adds.

You can follow Aalborg City on Facebook where they will be revealing where and how to buy your Sunday brunch. Here you’re also able to participate in large range of contests sponsored byt the city’s shops
