Whether you just arrived or have been living here for a while, being an international in Denmark comes with its challenges.

At the International House North Denmark (IHND), they know all about it and are ready to help you with settling in and building your life in our beautiful region.

What they are especially good at is connecting internationals with the Danish job market and vice versa. They offer different services for both job seekers and companies. Their main area of assistance lies within job search and career building.

Read on if you want to learn more about what IHND can do for you as an international in North Denmark.

Checklist

On their website, they have compiled a checklist covering all things related to job search in Denmark. It serves as a great starting point for your job search as it is filled with useful links and information.

Give it a try and be inspired.

Job Monday & Green Jobs

At IHND, they know that opening countless job ads with English titles just to find out that the entire job description is in Danish is tiring and frustrating.

That is why they share international-friendly job offers on their social media. Every Monday morning, you can check their list of jobs which require no Danish skills and every other Thursday, they share their Green Jobs. Green Jobs focus on positions and industries which contribute to the green transition.

Follow along on Facebook and LinkedIn; you might just find your new job in North Denmark.

Job search seminars

They regularly offer a free of charge job search seminar. In the seminar, you will be introduced to the cornerstones of job search in Denmark.

Topics like CV, application letter style, unsolicited applications and LinkedIn will be addressed and you will get a chance to ask your questions. You can find the next job search seminar and sign up for it on their website.

One-on-one meetings

In case you are looking to get personalized and detailed advice on your CV, application letter and general job search strategy, you are welcome to book an individual meeting with one of IHND’s team members.

In the meeting, they can discuss your job search strategy so far, help you adjust your CV to the expectations of Danish employees and give you tips and tricks for your future job search journey. The meetings are free of charge.

Spouse Space

With the special position of accompanying spouses in mind, IHND has been running the so-called Spouse Space program for a few years now.

Twice a year, this 3-month program aims to help people who moved to Denmark because of their partners’ employment find work, a network, and social communities.

The group meets about two times per month and is introduced to various aspects of the Danish job market, volunteering activities and much more by IHND and various guests.

This year’s spouse space starts on March 19th (until June 19th) and the sign up is open now.

Since there should be more to life than just work, they also aim to help internationals with making connections and finding purpose in the local communities.

Expat host

The IHND matches newcomers with expat hosts, in order to provide them with an anchor in their new home.

To become an Expat Host, you don’t have to be born and bread in Denmark. All you need is a warm and welcoming personality, the willingness to help a newcomer with settling in in Denmark and some good tips for making it through Danish winter.

Free time

Denmark has a stong and long-standing culture of clubs and associations. It is easy to get the impression that everyone here is a member in at least one of them and that impression might not be that far off from the truth.

As someone who is not familiar with the local club scene, it can be a bit difficult to know what is out there. As involvement in clubs and associations is a great way to find meaningful connections in your local community, IHND can help you find the people who are as much into crocheting or D&D as you are.

Stay tuned on their Facebook and Instagram as they will soon be launching a series of posts with valuable information on how to get connected in each of North Denmark’s municipalities.

International-friendly events

IHND share both their own and other international-friendly events on their social media. Follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to stay tuned.

If you are organizing an event which is accessible for or aimed at internationals, feel free to contact them. They might be able to help you promote it.

Volunteering

Working as a volunteer is a great experience! It can help you improve your Danish language skills and expand your personal and professional network.

If you’re interested in volunteering, but don’t know where to start, keep an eye out on our social media or contact IHND.

If you are an international volunteer organization looking for a home base, reach out to International House North Denmark and have a chat about what they can do for you.
