The opening date is official: Christmas at the Zoo will be a magical experience
Even though you might feel like we’ve just said goodbye to summer, Christmas is just a couple of months away. Just under three months to be exact.
Christmas is all about traditions, and one of the newest (and most popular) traditions in Aalborg is Christmas at the Zoo, which is usually a great hit.
This year is no exception with the theme “A Tribute to Love.” Christmas at the Zoo starts on November 12 at 17:00. To open the special event, the mayor, Thomas Kastrup Larsen, will turn on the lights of the giant Christmas tree.
What we can look forward to this year
“Christmas at the Zoo is chill and fun for all generations. You can look forward to experiencing the Christmas spirit in unique and majestic surroundings as the Zoo beams light upon winter darkness.
You’ll be going on a magical and romantically lit walk through a beautifully decorated garden. It will be a one-of-a-kind experience viewing and gazing upon the animals at the Zoo in the dark.
This year we celebrate love and companionship. There are plenty of opportunities to steal kisses under the mistletoe, take romantic walks through the garden’s poetic light landscapes. Enjoy foods from an inspirational food market with delicious local products and greet with the world’s sweetest Santa Claus,” Aalborg Zoo promises.
Buffet and Christmas goodies are waiting
And of course, you can buy food and delicious Christmas treats from all the Zoo’s dining areas.
All around the stalls and shops, you’ll be tempted by sweet Christmas goods and delicious barbecue dishes. Inside the big Christmas tent, you can experience the “Taste of North Jutland” and find delicious specialties and great gift ideas from local suppliers.
At Skovbakken, they serve an extensive Christmas buffet with delicious dishes meant for both children and adults.
Opening days, Christmas at the Zoo:
The following dates in November are open: 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28. All days from 16:00-21:00
December, 1st – 29th (but not December 24). All days from 16:00-21:00.
Ticket prices: Children (3-12 years) 85 kr. Adults 135 kr. If you have an annual pass to Aalborg Zoo, a free ticket, a sponsor ticket, or another admission ticket, you’ll also have access to Christmas at the Zoo.

On November 12 at 17:00, the mayor, Thomas Kastrup Larsen, opens Christmas at the Zoo and lights up the giant Christmas tree.
